What is egg freezing?

Egg freezing is a method of fertility preservation which people choose for many reasons including their age, personal circumstances, medical diagnoses and gender affirmation – among others.

It provides an opportunity to give you more time and better options when thinking about your future plans to start or add to your family.

Why should I freeze my eggs?

The chances of conceiving and having a healthy baby is very dependent on a woman’s age. Egg freezing provides the opportunity for women to store eggs at the age and quality they are at the time of their treatment. Women may wish to consider egg freezing if they are currently not ready for a pregnancy, or their fertility is at risk due to certain medical conditions which may affect the quality or quantity of their eggs.

Whatever your circumstances are for wanting to freeze your eggs, one thing is certain – the best time to freeze your eggs in when you are in your 20s or early 30s. This is when the quality of your eggs is at its best, and when you produce the highest quantity of eggs to give you the best chance of a future pregnancy.

Graph showing age and egg equality - egg quality falls as age rises

The younger you are, the higher quantity and better quality of eggs you would expect to have.
